Thornbeck College learners participated in an art workshop lead by James Owen Thomas who is an artist that uses recycled materials to support people to better understand the environment.

Learners completed a range of art activities including:

• Engaging in a presentation delivered by the artist
• Asking the artist questions about his artwork and career
• Sourcing a range of recycled materials to use in their own work
• Making landscapes of local scenic areas using the recycled materials

By participating in this event, learners gained knowledge of the environment and ways to be more sustainable. They also used functional English skills in taking direction from familiar and unfamiliar people.

Learners expressed they had enjoyed taking part in the workshop as it had allowed them to be creative and do an activity they may not usually partake in.
