To broaden their knowledge and understanding learners took part in a visit to Redcar and Cleveland Police custody suite to provide them with an insight of the custody process. Learners were met by two police officers who answered their questions before showing them around. The group were supported to access the reception desk where their details were checked, photographs and fingerprints taken before being shown to a cell. They were shown the facilities in the cell which included; a bed, toilet and sink, and the long-life meals they would provided if they were to be remanded in custody. Learners were also shown the shower and outdoor space on site along with the room they would have access to If they required time to speak to a solicitor during their stay The visit has supported learners to establish links in the community, understand the role of the police in keeping them and the wider community safe, to understand who is in their wider circle of support and how they can help . It has also supported them build their confidence in relation to approaching a police officer as a safe stranger. Manage Cookie Preferences
