Thornbeck College is an Independent Specialist College providing personalised programmes to autistic and neurodivergent individuals

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodivergent people to fulfil their potential in life.

DURING Term 3, the focus of the curriculum in the Retail Vocational area has been planning and participating in a range of enterprise activities.

As part of this, learners were supported to visit local shop ‘Wing and a Prayer’, which is a gift and art store selling a range of handmade products. They visited the shop, had a tour of the environment and engaged in discussion with the owner.

Prior to the visit the learners were provided with theoretical knowledge in relation to enterprise activities. They prepared a range of questions to ask the business owner to support them in understanding what planning goes into enterprise activities which supported them to identify further work in relation to their own projects for their Etsy shop.

The visit supported the learners to increase their knowledge and understanding of enterprise activities, developed their employability and communication skills and prompted community inclusion.
