Mackenzie Thorpe Centre

The Mackenzie Thorpe Centre is an independent specialist school based in South Bank, Redcar and Cleveland for pupils aged 5-19

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodiverse people to fulfil their potential in life.

The children from Class 2 enjoyed experimenting with different explosions for their class volcano. They did two experiments to compare the reaction to see which one was the best. One was with bicarbonate of soda with white wine vinegar and the other was carried out using lemonade and mentos. The children enjoyed comparing the reactions, recording their findings and then followed this by listening to other children’s opinions on which experiment was the best.

Autumn time is a wonderful time to take a stroll. The children explored their senses by listening to their surroundings, looking at the different colours of the autumn leaves and touching different materials nature has to offer.

In class 2 we know it is important to stay safe. The children have been finding out different ways to stay safe. We have looked at speak out, stay safe, explored child lines website, and created our own PANTS display using real pants and fabric pens to create a colourful but meaningful display.

Learning in the community

Luca attends the Mackenzie Thorpe Centre on a community based pathway. Lately he has enjoyed accessing a local library. This photograph shows Luca developing his IT skills by using PowerPoint to create a presentation. Well done Luca!
