Mackenzie Thorpe Centre

The Mackenzie Thorpe Centre is an independent specialist school based in South Bank, Redcar and Cleveland for pupils aged 5-19

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodiverse people to fulfil their potential in life.

Pupils had the unique opportunity to visit a very special art installation in Redcar this week.

Created by Belgian artist collective Captain Boomer, the realistic model of a juvenile sperm whale was brought to Redcar Beach to highlight the plight of our ocean creatures and pollution of our seas.

Pupils from across school used public transport to travel into Redcar and visit the installation. They were amazed by how realistic it looked and said they felt sad that some real whales are killed by rubbish in the oceans.

It has made students even more determined to reduce, reuse and recycle rather than throw their waste away.
