Thornbeck College

Thornbeck College is an Independent Specialist College providing personalised programmes to autistic and neurodivergent individuals

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodivergent people to fulfil their potential in life.

During their weekly Tutorials session learners were supported to identify what is meant by a community.

Learners were supported to:

  • Identify different groups that make up their community, what living in a community means
  • Value the different contributions that people and groups make to the community
  • Develop their understanding of diversity – what it means: the benefits of living in a diverse community, valuing diversity within communities
  • Increase their awareness of stereotypes: how they can negatively influence behaviours and attitudes towards others, strategies for challenging stereotypes
  • Think about prejudice: how to recognise behaviours and actions which discriminate against others, ways of responding to it if witnessed or experience
  • Access their local community with a checklist to identify facilities in their local community and how they can help
