During their weekly Tutorials sessions learners have participated in a range of activities relating to dental hygiene including:

• A group discussion in relation the importance of looking after their teeth and the appropriate frequency of toothbrushing
• Identifying food and drinks that could cause potential harm to their teeth
• Identifying effective toothbrushing techniques
• Exploring a range of toothpastes, mouthwash and dental hygiene product
• Using plaque disclosure tablets to complete a dental hygiene check,  each learner chewed a plaque disclosure tablet to identify old and new plaque and then examined their teeth in a mirror and talked about the build-up of plaque on their teeth. Old plaque was visible on their teeth as blue and new plaque red. Learners brushed their teeth again to remove the plaque and then used mouthwash to freshen their mouth

This has further developed the learners understanding of dental hygiene and helped to increase independence with daily oral routines which has a positive impact on their health.
