Mackenzie Thorpe Centre

The Mackenzie Thorpe Centre is an independent specialist school based in South Bank, Redcar and Cleveland for pupils aged 5-19

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodiverse people to fulfil their potential in life.

Pupils and staff alike, are delighted with our new independent living area. Pupils are now able to plan, research recipes and shop for ingredients to produce a range of basic meals and snacks, whilst developing those essential independent life skills.

Class 6 enjoyed taking part in a cookery lesson today and cooked a variety of pancakes.  Some pupils chose to cook a traditional style pancake and serve it as ‘crepes’ while others preferred to try the thicker fluffy American style.

Our aim in cookery is to promote healthy eating choices, pupils were given a range of fruit to add to their own pancakes depending on their likes and dislikes – and possibly just a hint of chocolate! The pancakes were a hit with all the class and empty plates all around!
