Acceptance Matters

Acceptance Matters is a virtual conference hosted by the North East Autism Society. Featuring a panel of autistic speakers, the conference will cover the topics of autistic wellbeing, autism and employment, communication as autistic parents, and understanding autistic experience.

Presenter: Sarah Meharg

Having agreed to cover this timeslot at short notice, it is likely you will see some self regulatory stimming in action as Sarah explores the world of stimming.  We will talk about the impact that pathologising stimming has onneurodivergent wellbeing and gain insights into why stimming is essential for many neurodivergent people. We will delve into the diverse forms of stimming, such as auditory, tactile, and proprioceptive, highlighting their significance and benefits. We will celebrate stimming and explore practical empowering opportunities for stimming. 

About the presenter

Sarah Meharg is neurodivergent occupational therapist and personal trainer who was diagnosed with Dyspraxia and ADHD in adulthood. With over 20 years clinical experience and a lifetime of lived experience she focuses on evidence based, practical strategies for boosting mood and living with purpose.  She works two days a week in the NHS as a specialist in adult neurodevelopmental team. The rest of the time she owns MoodLifter which focuses on helping individuals and organisations overcome barriers to wellbeing.  She is passionate about supporting people to flourish
