Mackenzie Thorpe Centre

The Mackenzie Thorpe Centre is an independent specialist school based in South Bank, Redcar and Cleveland for pupils aged 5-19

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodiverse people to fulfil their potential in life.

Pupils from the Mackenzie Thorpe Centre attended a special event to mark the official opening of access improvements on a two-mile section of the historic Black Path in Middlesbrough.

Thanks to work carried out by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, the popular walking and cycle route, which spans from Normanby to South Bank, is now accessible for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, adapted cycles and buggies.

It comes after the school was approached by Sustrans, who asked if the pupils would be interested in designing a logo for a new sign.

Vice Principal Lucy Sinclair coordinated the competition and submitted a number of entries for consideration. The winning design (shown below) has been cast in iron and is now on display for all to see.
