Thornbeck College is an Independent Specialist College providing personalised programmes to autistic and neurodivergent individuals


Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodivergent people to fulfil their potential in life.

Our Supported Internship Employability Programme is an individualised programme of study for 16 to 25 year olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.

The programme has one primary aim which is to: wherever possible to support young people to move into paid employment.

The programme will usually run for one year, where individualised programmes of study are developed around learners EHCP outcomes in order to prepare them for adulthood.

We will work closely with the interns, their circle of support, and host employer to ensure optimal opportunity for successfully gaining paid employment (including, where appropriate, self-employment).

A personalised timetable for an intern could include:
  • Workplace training with a specialist job coach
  • Mentoring to start a business
  • English and maths development
  • Personal and social development
  • Vocational sessions
  • Employability skills
Entry Requirements

You must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).  To apply you will need to ask your Local Authority to consult with Thornbeck College. We offer a pre-entry assessment before you join college so we can make sure this is the right programme for you. All learners are considered on an individual basis and matched to a course that is best placed to meet their needs, support their outcomes and move them towards their aspirations.
