Student Mentoring Service

Supporting University and College students across the North-east

We provide study skills support, working on a one-to-one basis with students to meet their individual needs and support them to develop their academic skills.

Taking the next step in your education can be a daunting process. Our expert team of Student Mentors and Mental Health Mentors are on hand to help support you every step of the way.

Our team of mentors will meet you, on campus, on a regular basis and are trained to provide assistance in a wide range of areas, including:

  • Getting settled into university life
  • Accessing university resources and social opportunities
  • Attending lectures and workshops
  • Understanding what is required of you during study time
  • Time management and planning, including planning and starting assignments
  • Developing communication and group work skills
  • Managing stress and anxiety
  • Preparing for exam revision
  • Maintaining motivation and prioritising workload

Our Student Mentoring Service is suitable for anyone who:

  • Is undertaking Higher Education
  • Is studying in North East of England
  • Is eligible or in receipt of Disabled Student Allowance

The cost of your support is covered by your Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) under the Non-Medical Helper allowance. You will need to have applied for DSA and undertaken an assessment during which they will determine your support needs and allocate funding. DSA can also cover the cost of specialist equipment where needed.

For further information on Disabled Student Allowance, and how to apply, please visit www.gov.uk.

What our students say about our service:

I don’t think I could’ve got through that year and passed without the support of NEAS and Kathryn. They built my confidence back up and supported me through any problems I had, giving me solutions to problems and communicating with my university to advise them and pass on any information to them.
