Aycliffe School

Aycliffe School is an independent, purpose-built specialist school based at the North East Centre for Autism, Newton Aycliffe in County Durham for pupils aged 3-19

Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodiverse people to fulfil their potential in life.

Our Sensory and Communication Pathway is an individualised pathway for Pre-14 pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), who want to develop their social and communication skills and ability to self-regulate their sensory processing. All pupils are assessed on an individual basis and matched to a pathway that is best placed to their needs.

The pathways main focus is developing pupils early social, communication and independence skills in preparation for their next stage of Education. It is a skills based pathway with functional skills delivered in a practical way through real life experiences.

We will work closely with the pupil and their support network to ensure we provide a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach.

The pathway intentions are to encourage the development of:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Communication
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Preparing for adulthood:
    • Education
    • Independent Living
    • Community Inclusion
    • Health and Well-being
