Natalie McKee from Hebburn shaved her head last week to help raise funds for NEAS.

Natalie's son Cameron is 13 years old and accesses our Family Support Services.

After receiving support from the North East Autism Society, Natalie felt compelled to do something to show her appreciation for the support we have provided to her family.

Natalie said: “Shaving my hair off has been something that’s crossed my mind before and I wanted to do something to raise money for the North East Autism Society.

I just wanted to give something back to the charity for the way they helped us as a family as well as raise awareness of autism. Cameron is 13 years old and it has been a struggle, every day is different with him. But I wouldn’t change him for the world.”

Ms Mckee lost her locks during an event held at the Mill Tavern pub in Mill Lane Hebburn. To date, she has raised about £500 through cash and online donations. She has also donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

"It was nerve-racking but also exciting too,” said Natalie. “I did have a bit of a wobble a couple of weeks ago wondering if I would be able to go through with it.

I put my hair in sections and each of the kids were able to cut a bit off and my mam, Debbie Maloney, finished it off. It was upsetting at first seeing the hair falling off. But I’m quite pleased with it. I didn’t think I would suit it as much as I do.

The amount I have raised has been amazing, I’ve had so much support. I’m keeping my fundraising page open for a few more weeks if anyone would like to still donate.”
