Michael Simpson, from Ferryhill, hopes to raise funds and awareness for the NEAS by taking part in Muddy Mayhem in Sedgefield on Sunday, September 27.

However, the 47-year-old is not stopping there he hopes to be among the first five to complete the 10k muddy obstacle challenge at Hardwick Park.

Mr Simpson, who has been doing extra training at Lifestyle Fitness in Newton Aycliffe, was inspired to take part in the race by his nephew, Jack, who has autism.

“Jack was diagnosed with mild autism at an early age,” said Mr Simpson. “He is 18-years-old now and I have watched him grow up and seen the effect autism has on him and the family. The North East Autism Society is a cause close to my heart and I hope to raise as much as possible.”
