DiversityNE participants were offered the chance to attend two day-long workshops delivered by the leading training provider, based in County Durham, earlier this week. While the offer was also extended to individuals currently enrolled on other employability programmes being delivered by the North East Autism Society's Employment Futures provision. A total of 16 participants took part in the voluntary sessions which took place in our North Shields office on Monday 1st November, and at YESNE’s Sunderland base on Tuesday 2nd November. The course was designed specifically for Employment Futures by Andy Parkin, from ITEC NE, with the aim of preparing participants for future job interviews and boosting their self-confidence. Participants took part in a range of activities throughout the day, including ice breakers, interview preparation techniques, such as the STAR method, and several small group tasks where participants were asked to get to know each other and discuss each other’s abilities. “It was a pleasure to come to the DiversityNE offices and meet your learners,” says Debbie Craig, Business Development Manager at ITEC NE. “The participants were all extremely engaging and a pleasure to be around and teach.” In addition to this week’s training, ITEC NE will also be making follow-up telephone calls to all participants next week. Learner Recruitment Officers Laura and Kirsty will conduct short interviews over the phone and try to match individual participants with apprenticeship vacancies that may be suited to their interests, abilities and personal goals. While Andy also kindly provided participants with his email address to contact him with any questions or for advice on interviews going forward. DiversityNE is planning told hold similar events in future as part of our ongoing commitment to helping neurodivergent individuals find meaningful and sustained employment.
