Our short breaks service is more than just a lifeline for families across the North-east – it’s a looked-forward-to destination for everyone who stays with us.

At New Warlands Farm, we recognise that no two individuals will have the same wants and needs. That's why each person who stays with us will have their own bespoke package tailored to what they want to achieve during their stay. So whether you're looking for an action-packed trip or a more relaxing break - our dedicated team will do everything they can to make this happen.

What our families say ...

The place is absolutely brilliant. I don't know what I would do without them.
Aims of the Short Breaks service include:
  • To make a positive difference to the life of the autistic individual as well as the lives of their family members.
  • Offer enjoyable and educational activities which meet with the persons individual preferences.
  • Provide a family centered service developed with the input from family members.

We are able to offer residential short breaks at New Warlands Farm which is set within 77 acres of farmland. Located just 10 minutes from the centre of Chester-le-Street, the service enjoys countryside views with quick access to both town and city activities. The short breaks service has six spacious lodges which are modern and comfortable.

Unlike other facilities, the bespoke lodges have been designed with an understanding of neurodiversity – offering bespoke facilities built to carefully consider sensory needs as well as the ideal environment to help develop skills for life and independence. Some of the lodges have been designed to meet the needs of individuals who have physical disabilities.

We are able to offer a safe, responsive, effective and caring service by training the staff team to a high standard. We listen to the needs of the individual and their family. As well as focusing on specific goals the service is designed to enrich lives by widening experiences, developing connections with the local community and overcoming potential barriers to accessing any activities or interests. Leisure activities which people enjoy and find stimulating are vital for an individual’s physical and emotional well-being. We support individual’s to make choices through providing information in their preferred format regarding the activities that they enjoy and want to participate in.

Our Short Breaks service is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission and is rated ‘good’. The latest CQC report says:

People received compassionate and empowering care that was tailored to their needs. Staff placed people's wishes, needs and rights at the heart of everything they did.
