Cleveland Way Trek

Our hiking challenge returns for 2024 as we take on the Cleveland Way challenge! We’ll be taking on a 20 mile stretch of this iconic and historic hiking trail, crossing moors and summiting peaks that will give us stunning views across the North Yorkshire Moors countryside and coastline.

We’re again working alongside the Walk and Talk Trust, with whom we have collaborated on events previously, to create this event. The challenge will require a good level of fitness to tackle the required ascents, but one that is achievable for most people with a bit of training.

We’ll meet at the walk’s finishing point at Great Ayton Village Hall and travel to the start line in Swainby via minibus to get straight on the trail and underway. Climbing atop the ridge, we’ll pass the mysterious crags of the Wainstones, hike across Urra Moor (the highest point in the North York Moors), and finish at the summit of the iconic Captain Cook’s Monument.

The route is approximately 20 miles in length (~32km) with approximately 3,200ft of elevation. Participants will be in groups with walking guides at all times and will be provided with a kit list ahead of the event to make sure everyone has the required equipment on the trail.

For safety reasons, the minimum age to participate is 14 years old and all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the challenge. No dogs are permitted, with the exception of service dogs (please let us know in advance if required).

This is a challenge event, and we ask that all participants aim to raise at least £50.00 to support North East Autism Society’s service provision for autistic children, young people and adults across the region.
