Lewis' confidence blooms during radio performance

A Thornbeck College learner has continued to grow in confidence, returning to Aycliffe Radio to perform live on air.

Lewis was first introduced to the station as part of his personalised programme. Following a successful initial visit, he returned to take part in a live singing session with presenter Colin McNeille.

During the broadcast, Lewis spoke with Colin and performed for listeners, supported by college staff. A highlight came when his grandad sent a live message praising his performance, which staff said gave his confidence a noticeable boost. Staff described the experience as an important milestone, reflecting Lewis’s increasing confidence and willingness to engage in new opportunities.

Music remains a personal interest for Lewis, supporting communication, wellbeing and community inclusion. Opportunities like this can have a real impact on a young person’s confidence and sense of achievement
