Gift Aid
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK tax incentive scheme that allows charities to claim an additional 25p for every £1 donated to them, completely free of charge. The additional money is claimed by charities – not the donors – from HMRC on qualifying donations made by UK taxpayers. This means that if you donate £20 to NEAS, we will receive an additional £5 from HMRC, taking the total value of your donation to £25.
Do my donations qualify?
Firstly, you must be a UK Income or Capital Gains taxpayer, and have paid an amount in tax within the tax year of your donation at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid that all charities will reclaim from your donations – not just NEAS. Other taxes, including VAT and Council Tax, don’t qualify and can’t be used in these calculations, only Income and Capital Gains taxes. If you fail to pay sufficient tax to cover your Gift Aid claims, it will be your responsibility to cover this with HMRC.
Secondly, the type of donation you make is important as not all of them qualify for Gift Aid. There are a lot of rules around this, but to put it in it’s simplest form, only personal donations made as gifts are eligible for Gift Aid. Donations made by companies, in return for goods, services or other benefits, or on behalf of other people, are not eligible for Gift Aid.
If you’re not sure if your donation qualifies, please get in touch with our fundraising team and we’ll take a look.
How do I claim Gift Aid on my Donations to NEAS?
We’ll need a Gift Aid declaration from you stating that you’re happy for us to reclaim Gift Aid on your donations. If you’re using the donation page on our website, you’ll see a checkbox you can use to indicate this at the time of making your donation. If you have given, or are planning to give to NEAS, by other methods, such as cash or cheque, you can use the form below to complete your declaration.
You can choose to Gift Aid just one donation you’ve made recently (or are planning to make), all donations you make going forwards, or all future donations plus all those made in the last four years – please just select your preferred option on the form below. If you’ve made a donation to NEAS recently, please give the details in the box provided to allow us to update our records with your declaration. Otherwise, we will take it as active from the date that we receive it.
If there’s anything you’re unsure of, please either email fundraising@ne-as.org.uk or call 0191 492 4383 and we’ll be happy to have a chat about it.
Gift Aid Declaration
By filling in this declaration, you confirm that you are a UK Income or Capital Gains taxpayer, you have read this statement, and want North East Autism Society to reclaim tax on any donation(s) you make.
You understand that you must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) donated to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Please understand that other taxes, such as VAT and Council Tax, do not qualify.
North East Autism Society will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that has been given.
Should you no longer wish to be registered for Gift Aid with North East Autism Society, you agree to inform us of this prior to making any future donations to allow us to update our records. Please note that your declaration is valid only with North East Autism Society, we do not share your details with any other charitable organisations so you will have to create/revoke your declarations with all charities you choose to support separately.
