About World Autism Acceptance Month
World Autism Acceptance Month takes place in April, and it’s a global effort to promote acceptance and better understanding of autism. World Autism Acceptance Day is 2nd April; that’s when North East landmarks will be lit up in gold in support of our message.
Of course! You can set your own challenge if you’d like and take it on at a time that suits you. We work with supporters all the time who want to take on their own challenge for North East Autism Society and, whether it’s a walk or a run, a bake sale or a knit-a-thon, contact our fundraising team today and we’ll gladly help you set your fundraiser up.
We’re based in the North East and every penny raised goes to our services supporting autistic people and their family in the region – from Northumberland to Teesside.
We’ve been running as a charity for 45 years this year and we support more than 7,000 autistic people and their families every week.
National and international organisations will be joining us to spread the message of acceptance far and wide. But if you want to fundraise for opportunities locally, then NEAS is a great way to do it.

So many people struggle with requesting a donation from people towards their efforts. Recent research conducted by fundraising platform Enthuse though showed two things:
- That “86% of those receiving requests for donations being happy to give most of the time” (of which 45% of people will almost always donate when asked).
- That 23% of people who didn’t donate had either forgotten or didn’t have time to donate when they received the request.
It’s easy to be shy to ask, and to just assume that people won’t be bothered to give, but they can be more generous than you think, so it’s always worth asking and seeing what happens a few times to make sure everyone’s had the chance to support you. Shy bairns get nowt!
The easiest way is via the donate section of our website, which will allow you to make a card payment straight to us. As this is collected income, please do not Gift Aid your donation, but please send any sponsorship forms you have over to us so we can claim any qualifying Gift Aid for you.
We can also take donations via cheque, please contact fundraising@ne-as.org.uk for the details of where to send it to, or via cash if you bring it along to our Walk for Acceptance in an envelope with your name and contact details on. Please do not send cash via the post.
Over 99% of the funds we raise go towards our services for autistic people and their families across the North East. From face-to-face support such as schools, residential homes, and family hubs, to wide-reaching virtual services such as Zoom webinars for parents and for professionals, and our Family Networking hub – every penny you raise makes a massive difference to the lives of autistic people right here in the North East.
