As part of Youth Skills Day, learners took part in Thornbeck’s Dragon’s Den, an enterprise challenge that encouraged learners to develop their creativity, communication and teamwork skills.

Health and safety month at Thornbeck
During September, learners at Thornbeck participated in a range of activities and experiences as part of health and safety month.
This included:
- A tour of the college building including fire exits and assembly points
- Mock fire evacuation and role play to further understand the use of fire alarms and practical applications within the college building
- Learning about a variety of health and safety signs applicable to their curriculum and environment
- Safe handling of tools and equipment
- Manual handling
- Safe storage of items
- Purpose of personal protective equipment at college and the workplace
- The roles and responsibilities of the emergency services
- Visiting Cipher ambulance base to learn about to CPR and tour the ambulance to see equipment demonstrated
- Visiting Newton Aycliffe fire station to explore the workings of an operational fire station and understand the significant role firefighters play in keeping the community safe
Through taking part in health and safety month, learners have increased their knowledge, skills and behaviours in relation to personal safety.
