Halloween Celebrations at Thornbeck College

Learners at Thornbeck College have been getting into the Halloween spirit! Over the last half term, they have worked collaboratively across the site to plan and prepare for a series of exciting Halloween events.

As part of the celebrations, learners have:

  • Researched, designed, and created a variety of spooky decorations
  • Accessed the community to purchase supplies
  • Supported the Student Council in organising a silent disco before the holidays
  • Transformed the site’s sensory walk with creative Halloween-themed decorations

Through these activities, learners have been able to develop key functional skills in English and Maths, applying them in meaningful, hands-on contexts. They have written instructions for their creations, measured and constructed decorations safely in the workshop, and embedded health and safety practices into their work.

Working across the curriculum, learners have strengthened their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Those who took part in the silent disco also had the opportunity to enjoy a fun and inclusive sensory experience, supporting the development and maintenance of their friendships.

The Halloween project is a wonderful example of learners working together, expressing creativity, and building confidence while celebrating the annual event.
