Welcome Back

Thornbeck College welcomed new and returning learners for the start of a new academic year. Learners have taken part in a range of activities as part of their induction into college, including:

• A tour of the college buildings
• An introduction to the Designated Safeguarding Leads and their role
• An introduction to their key tutor and their role
• An introduction to the curriculum areas
• Increasing their understanding of the Preparing for Adulthood framework and how this links to the curriculum at Thornbeck, as part of their weekly Tutorials sessions
• Health and safety activities including identifying health and safety signs, the fire evacuation procedure and identification of the fire assembly points
• Agreeing to a learner charter which identifies what is expected of both learners and staff at college
• Agreeing to the learner mobile phone and IT acceptable use policy
• Developing their understanding of democracy in relation to the student council. Staff supported learners to understand the roles within the student council and then learners created an election poster to nominate themselves as a potential candidate
• Voting for their friends in the learner council elections
