Community Based Work Experience - Mighty Mutt House

Thornbeck College has secured a new community-based work experience placement with Mighty Mutt House. Isabelle attends weekly sessions to support the development of her employability skills. As Isabelle has no prior experience of work experience, her participation in a community-based placement with an employer is a significant achievement.

Isabelle attends work experience one day per week, supported by Thornbeck College staff. During her placement, she has participated in a range of activities, including:

• Completing basic dog health checks.
• Supporting with cleaning in line with health and safety expectations, including maintaining the environment, dog areas and crates.
• Supporting with feeding the dogs and ensuring they have access to fresh drinking water.
• Providing appropriate social interaction and engagement with the dogs.
• Cleaning, organising and putting away toys and equipment.
• Following instructions provided by unfamiliar employees.
• Identifying and appropriately reporting potential hazards.

Isabelle is developing her confidence and ability to work within an unfamiliar environment while building important employability skills, including following instructions, working safely, communicating with others and taking responsibility for workplace tasks.
