We bought the 78-acre site in 2010 and already have a range of services on site to support neurodivergent people
Take a look round
Our footage gives you a bird’s-eye view of the New Warlands farm site, set in the beautiful County Durham countryside.
Close to the rural village of Edmondsley, and bordered by agricultural farms and ancient woodland, the site is less than seven miles outside the city of Durham.
Our expansion plans will see it enrich the local community by providing a new tourism destination, as well as exploring the local heritage of traditional crafts and food production.
Training Centre
We have run a training centre on the farm since 2012 providing social and vocational programmes in food production, horticulture, woodwork, IT, textiles, leisure, therapy and floristry.
Part of our Adult Day Services provision, the centre is attended by around 50 adults each day. They contribute to the small-scale production of apple juice and cider at the farm, which will be expanded with the construction of a new cider-press.
Short break lodges
Nestled next to woodland are six specially-adapted lodges which provide short breaks for neurodivergent adults in a calming and peaceful environment.
People who stay take part in a variety of activities in the lodges and the surrounding community to develop their independence and friendships outside the family.
Supported living home
The farmhouse at New Warlands has been converted into two self-contained flats and a shared home for two more adults.
It’s part of our Independent Supported Living Service, which helps people to live in their own homes with round-the-clock support from a team of carers.
Working farm
We have been growing fruit and vegetables on the farm for years, and our hens have won numerous awards at county shows.
In 2024 we appointed a farm manager, Dave Wilde, to develop the site into a sustainable working farm. The first lamb was born there in May, and wildflower hay meadows were planted.
We need your support
Our £4.4 million vision for New Warlands Farm is the charity’s most ambitious project yet. Please back us to make a lasting impact on the lives of autistic and neurodivergent people in the North East.
