The project
Situated in 78 acres of rolling countryside, our expanded New Warlands Farm will be a sustainable visitor attraction and innovative training hub, providing training placements and jobs for autistic and neurodivergent people.
New Warlands Farm is situated in the rural community of Edmondsley, County Durham, and is bordered by ancient woodland and agricultural land.
The proposed development of just over two acres comprises a cider press, café and bar, exhibition space, a multi-purpose barn, and a workshop, all grouped round a central courtyard.
Elsewhere on the farm, new wetlands areas will be created, together with wildflower hay meadows, an expanded apple orchard, and accessible nature walks.
There’ll be sheep, pigs, goats and petting animals, and it is hoped the wetlands will attract endangered water voles back to Durham, as well as great-crested newts, insects and birds.

Mackenzie Thorpe
World-renowned artist Mackenzie Thorpe is one of our charity patrons and the new development will feature his artwork.
Mackenzie, who was born and grew up in Middlesbrough, has already designed the logo for New Warlands Farm and the labels for its apple juice and cider.
His work will be a distinctive feature of the new site, and will appear in our capital appeal – something the artist strongly supports.
“In so many ways neurodivergent people have unique talents and abilities, and this is what we need to celebrate,” Mackenzie says.
“Being involved with an organisation like NEAS makes me unbelievably proud.”
