National Careers Week

Learners at Thornbeck participated in a range of activities to mark National Careers Week. Learners participated in activities designed to support them in exploring future career aspirations, reflecting on their personal strengths, and developing an awareness of career pathways and opportunities.

Activities included:

  • A PowerPoint presentation introducing National Careers Week (NCW), outlining the purpose of the event, the types of activities and opportunities available, and encouraging learners to consider their future career goals and aspirations.
  • Completion of “About Me” worksheets (available in both widget and written formats), where learners were supported to reflect on:
    • their strengths and areas for development,
    • personal skills,
    • hobbies and interests,
    • and future aspirations.
  • Engagement with the BBC Bitesize Careers Podcast:
    • How Do I Find a Job I’ll Enjoy? from BBC BBC Bitesize Careers Podcast, which encouraged learners to think about job satisfaction, interests, and career matching.
  • Participation in the Buzz Quiz personality and career suitability quiz, helping learners explore how personality traits can link to different career pathways.
  • Individual discussions with staff regarding career aspirations, including conversations about staff experiences of education, training, and employment to provide learners with real-life insight and guidance.
  • Attendance at a Virtual Careers Assembly, which focused on the subjects of Maths, PE, History, RE, and Citizenship, exploring how technology can support and advance these areas. Learners also explored how technology can combine skills and interests from different subjects while highlighting exciting future careers within the technology sector.

Overall, National Careers Week had a positive impact on learners by increasing their awareness of future education, training, and employment opportunities. Learners were encouraged to reflect on their personal strengths, interests, and aspirations, helping them to develop greater confidence in discussing potential career pathways.
