Roald Dahl Day

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day (13th September) learning was based around the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Working towards developing their literacy skills, learners read or were read extracts from the book; a focus on the sweets and chocolates that Willy Wonka created.

Red class – the Intent of the lesson was to create a project that the class could work on for the term, they chose making chocolates to sell which was linked to Roald Dahl and covered several targets (see below):

Learners took part in a tasting test of 5 different chocolates, rating them 1 – 5.  They then designed their own chocolate flavour and name.

They then had to make an ingredients list and work out prices to makes sure the ingredients prices where within budget. Each student went shopping to collect the ingredients needed to make their chocolates and returned to school. The following day as a class the learners created their own test chocolates together by breaking and melting the chocolates and then pouring them into an ice cube tray and added their ingredients and put them into the fridge to set. They then taste tested them so that they could evaluate and make any amendments.
