Learner Voice
The school aims to have a well-integrated student council where our learners are supported by specialist staff to aid effective communication and decision making. Our Learner Voice surveys and tutorials will help influence organisation, development and quality improvement. They will also effectively demonstrate that the views of all learners are collected and acted upon.
A wide range of strategies are to be employed to gather learners’ views including satisfaction surveys, student council, talking mats, PCLPs, input from speech and language therapists, student representatives. Input from communication champions ensure that learners are supported with appropriate high and / or low tech AAC aids and strategies.
This approach helps students with varying levels of communication to express themselves in relation to operational and strategic issues by increasing their ability to use a range of communication strategies.

Sensory audit

Student council members did a sensory checklist and audit of their respective classrooms and identified what their peers would benefit from, what resources each class already had and what sensory items they would like

It was also identified that learners wanted more regulation areas

Learners have been asking for more equipment and play equipment for the outside area
Outcome –

Sensory resources were bought for classrooms, which included weighted jackets, body socks, fidget toys and scooters/boards. More resources for the Therapy room was provided

Consultation with playground companies for plans and equipment that could be provided

Trampettes bought
- Learners wanted more opportunities to interact with others around the school
Outcome
- Chatty Wednesday was introduced with a range of conversation starters provided and communication systems to ensure it was inclusive to all. This has been a success and has been growing in popularity each week.

Learners believed water safety is important to learn about – We have registered with RLSS UK’s Water Smart Schools free water safety award programme and are awaiting training dates
