Health and Safety Month at Thornbeck College

At Thornbeck College, learners have participated in health and safety month. Learners have developed the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they need to stay safe both in college and in the wider community.

Throughout the month, learners have enjoyed a fantastic range of informative and engaging visits from local emergency services, including the Northeast Ambulance Service, Police, Fire and Rescue Service and Northeast Air Ambulance.

These visits gave learners the opportunity to meet emergency service professionals, learn more about the important work they do and discover how they help to keep people safe every day. Learners also explored what they can do to help prevent accidents, how to recognise potential risks and what to do if an emergency occurs.

Health and safety has also been a key focus across college. Through sessions and practical activities, learners have explored how to stay safe during lessons and activities, follow important safety procedures, identify potential hazards, and make positive choices.

The month has provided lots of opportunities for learners to develop important independent living and community safety skills, while reinforcing the message that everyone has an important role to play in keeping themselves and others safe.

We would like to thank all of the emergency services who took the time to visit Thornbeck College, facilitated external visits and shared their knowledge and expertise with our learners.

It has been a fantastic month of learning, practical experiences, and increased awareness, helping learners understand that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility.
