Chinese New Year

Learners enjoyed a visit to the Oriental Museum in Durham to mark Chinese New Year – The Year of the Horse. Learners looked at a range of artifacts, and enjoyed observing the dragon dance, which was performed by a local primary school. Learners also heard the story of the dragon dance and participated in a range of traditional activities before heading to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. Celebrating Chinese New Year gives learners a meaningful opportunity to explore culture, tradition, and community. Through learning about its customs and values, students build greater cultural awareness, empathy, and respect for diversity.
