Life with Tourette syndrome ‘It’s not me – it’s Suzie’

Youth Skills Day
As part of Youth Skills Day, learners took part in Thornbeck’s Dragon’s Den, an enterprise challenge that encouraged learners to develop their creativity, communication and teamwork skills.
Learners worked together to design their own session app, thinking about its purpose, features and how it could be used within the college. They then extended their ideas by creating costumes to represent and promote their app, demonstrating imagination and problem-solving skills throughout the project.
To showcase their work, learners presented their app ideas to the Dragon’s Den panel (the tutor team) before taking part in a fashion show and catwalk, where the learners modelled their costumes and presented their app ideas.
Activities throughout the project included:
- Designing and developing a session app.
- Planning and creating costumes to represent their app.
- Working collaboratively to share ideas and solve problems.
- Presenting their app to the Dragon’s Den panel.
- Taking part in a fashion show and catwalk to showcase their designs.
Participating in Thornbeck’s Dragon’s Den supported learners to develop a range of transferable employability skills, including communication, teamwork, creativity, decision-making and presentation skills. The event provided a fun and engaging way for learners to celebrate Youth Skills Day.
