World Animal Day Careers Event

We were visited by Alby the Ranger from Animal Club who brought the following guests:

• Fancy Mice
• Ackie Monitor
• Stick Insects
• Corn Snake
• White Knee Tarantula
• Argentinian Horned Frog
• Giant Snails
• Hissing Cockroaches

Our learners had the opportunity to participate in a show and tell about each animal and were able to ask Ably all about what it is like to work with animals.

What did our learners ask Alby?

Harry: “do animals feel love”

Harry: “how do I do this type of work. I really want to work with Animal Club or Butterfly World?”

John-James: “rats have a long tail”

Phoenix: “what is that animal” and “can I see another one?”

Ryan: “I’m actually very curious, it looks like you’re taking good care of them; she is honestly beautiful!”

Ashley: “how long do female tarantulas live?”

Ashley: “would you die if a tarantula bit you?”

Daniel: “The shell of a snail protects their organs from predators; their nerves in their eyes are further away so they can only see dark and bright”

Daniel: “I would like to work in a job where I can take care of animals”

Alby was incredibly impressed with all of the questions and observations from the learners at Mackenzie Thorpe Centre.

Following the very successful visit from Animal Club, two learners have been inspired to want to work with animals and are in the process of planning a visit to Askham Bryan College to investigate their Animal Care and Animal Management courses.
