Thornhill Park School

Thornhill Park School is an independent specialist school based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear for pupils aged 4-19

Our mission is to work together inspiring, supporting, celebrating and equipping autistic and neurodiverse children, young people and adults.

At Thornhill Park School, nurturing the love for books and reading is one of our priorities.

Pupils are surrounded by books, stories and creativity every day, but we dedicated World Book Day to bringing some of our favourite characters alive!

Miss Trunchbull, The Queen of Hearts, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka, Anne of Green Gables, Gangsta Grannie, The Wicked Witch and Oompa Loompas walked around school all day, bringing out our best smiles!

Pupils also took the day to celebrate famous children’s authors such as Terry Dean, David Walliams, Carol Ann Duffy and Julia Donaldson.

There was also space to let imagination fly and students engaged on a fairy tale writing game, where dice were rolled to pick characters and settings. They then wrote their fairy tales and performed them for their classes!

A World Book Day Treasure Hunt was the highlight of our day! Pupils and staff walked around the school trying to find characters, book covers and authors all hidden around the school.
