A number of our Post-16 pupils have been developing their employability skills by taking part in work experience at our society shop, based in Derwent Street in Sunderland. 

The young people have been engaging in work-based activities such as opening up the retail shop and preparing the shop for customers. Other tasks include: completing stock checks, completing health and safety checks within the building, handling money and cashing up the till and serving customers.  

Pupils have also been able to develop their independent living skills by completing activities such as cleaning and hoovering their working environment and ensuring the shop is tidy and ready for customers. 

Travel training skills has also been developed as pupils travel to and from their place of work.
