Thornhill Park School

Thornhill Park School is an independent specialist school based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear for pupils aged 4-19

Our mission is to work together inspiring, supporting, celebrating and equipping autistic and neurodiverse children, young people and adults.

Storyteller and author of most-loved stories, Roald Dahl is a British symbol of imagination, learning and enjoyment in doing so.

At Thornhill Park School, we are proud to promote the love for learning and encourage creativity every single day.

On the 13th of September 2021, pupils enthusiastically participated in a range of diverse activities, promoting the development of skills such as problem-solving, cooking, literacy and numeracy, sensory regulation, fine motor skills, social skills and creative thinking.

For the day, everyone was disguised. No Witches were invited but, still, our identities remained hidden: instead of pupils and staff, Mr Wonkas, Sophies and Matildas, Miss Honeys and Mrs Trunchbulls invaded Thornhill Park.

Just as Fantastic Mr. Fox did, pupils had to create a plan: find the 25 Roald Dahl Characters hidden around the school! The treasure, however, was not chickens, ducks or turkeys. Instead, lollipops, gummies and love hearts delighted our afternoon.

Decorating Roald Dahl’s characters, character matching games, ladybird biscuit making, Quentin Blake style drawing, making Roald Dahlesque ingredients for Mr Twit’s beard, creating revolting adjectives and tasting snozzcumber, birdpie and foxes noses were some of the magical activities our pupils engaged in throughout the day.

Pupils and staff had a truly “splendiferous” day!

Miss Honey would have been so proud!
