Thornhill Park School

Thornhill Park School is an independent specialist school based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear for pupils aged 4-19

Our mission is to work together inspiring, supporting, celebrating and equipping autistic and neurodiverse children, young people and adults.

Kindness Day is celebrated worldwide on the 13th of November of every year. This is a day that encourages us all to be kinder to others, to ourselves and to the world.

Compassion is, indeed, what brings us all together and at Thornhill Park School we understand the importance of kind and gentle actions that allow us to grow as individuals and promote safe, understanding environments for others.

To celebrate this day, students worked on their understanding of kind and unkind choices, manners and words. They also engaged in activities that would broaden their self-awareness such as reflecting on how they have felt when someone was kind to them and what they considered a kind action as well as awareness of others: how might others feel when I do something kind for them?

To consolidate all their learning and reflections, students wrote kind letters to each other and delivered them personally whilst saying something kind, using good manners and a sharing a smile. This surely created a warm and kind atmosphere all around!
