Thornhill Park School

Thornhill Park School is an independent specialist school based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear for pupils aged 4-19

Our mission is to work together inspiring, supporting, celebrating and equipping autistic and neurodiverse children, young people and adults.

On Monday 20th September, Thornhill Park School hosted a Coffee Morning and Afternoon to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity focuses on supporting cancer patients financially, emotionally and physically. Being aware that over 3 million people live with cancer in the UK today and that Macmillan’s work is crucial for their wellbeing, Thornhill Park School decided to host a fundraiser.

All staff in the school were challenged to participate in a Staff Bake-Off: after cooking throughout the weekend, staff entered the competition with cheesecakes, cupcakes, muffins and the most scrumptious chocolate, orange and vanilla cakes!

All learners unanimously voted on their favourite cake and Christopher Graham, Class 3 Teacher, was the successful winner of a Costa Voucher.

Staff were not the only ones who were challenged though! During the event, parents and guardians, together with their child, were invited to take part in a dessert quiz. After battling with the testing questions, Ben and his parents were awarded with another Costa Voucher!

Students also took part by decorating the dinner hall with personalised bunting and thoughtful messages of gratitude to cancer care workers.

The cake sale, together with the sale of coffee, hot chocolate and tea, and the most generous donations from everyone attending, raised a total of £263.53!

Thornhill Park School could not be more thankful to all parents, guardians, learners and staff who joined efforts to organise and participate in a lovely coffee morning and afternoon in a different variety of ways. It was wonderful to have everyone together once more, after the difficult period we have all been through, and to support such an amazingly necessary cause.
