Thornbeck College has successfully established a new community link with The Pioneering Care Partnership which supports the college to deliver community-based work experience.

The Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is a leading, award-winning charity whose mission is: Health, Wellbeing and Learning for All.  PCP aims to support the development of individual and community capacity by creating opportunities to improve the health, wellbeing, and life chances of disadvantaged communities.

One of our learners, Kieran, expressed an interest in completing a ‘support role’. Kieran has engaged in a range of activities including: 

• Observing the role of a support worker by shadowing permanent staff and how they interact and support service users
• Completing an observational work placement booklet each week in relation to his observations
• Participating in a range of activities with service users
• Offering direct support to learners when required

Kieran will continue to attend his work experience on a weekly basis during term 3 to support him to make an informed decision in relation to employment.
