Thornbeck College is an Independent Specialist College providing personalised programmes to autistic and neurodivergent individuals


Working together to inspire, support, celebrate and equip autistic and neurodivergent people to fulfil their potential in life.

Learners participated in a range of activities to celebrate National Careers Week.

This included:

  • Virtual meetings with employers from the RSPB, Amazon and Sage. Learners prepared a range of questions prior to the meetings to gain relevant information relating to skills and qualities required for each career pathway, including Labour Market Information (LMI).
  • The college staff team created careers journeys which supported learners to identify the meaning of ‘career’ as well as enabling them to ask the staff team questions to gain information about specific job roles, the staff team have a range of skills relating to many different job roles.
  • The history of jobs and jobs in the future. Learners were able to identify a range of job roles which are no longer used and state reasons why including health and safety implications and equality and diversity.
  • Identifying and challenging stereotypes linked to job roles including elements of the 9 protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.
  • Designated careers area including prospectus booklets from FE colleges and other career related information.

Activities planned have ensured the college continues to work towards reaching the Gatsby Benchmarks and provide learners with the relevant information to access a robust Careers programme as part of their college programme.
