The aims of the event were: To develop understanding about rules, law and human rights To identify the importance of compassion to others, giving care to people and living things To identify ways for protecting the environment, understanding how everyday choices can make an impact Learners participated in a range of activities, suggesting ideas to work together to support their new understanding of shared responsibilities and support the environment by: Increasing the amount of items the college recycles Suggesting ways that the college could reduce printing Accessing the community to purchase an outdoor rotary airer to reduce the use of the tumble dryer when completing laundry tasks Discussing the importance of using sustainable fertiliser and the responsibly of recycling food waste. Learners completed a task using compost from the compost waste bin and staff explained that last year’s food waste had broken down to create the compost Writing an article for the college newsletter which identified the benefits of working together Supporting learners to develop their understanding of shared responsibility has supported the development of learner employability and independent living skill and had a positive impact on the environment.
