Since starting his education programme Ben has identified Horticulture as his vocational area of interest and has completed a range of on site and community-based work experience to date. He is currently working towards a NOCN Entry Level Certificate in Using Employability Skills. Ben is now accessing weekly work experience with Sunderland Home Grown which will provide him an opportunity to develop a range of new skills and transfer his existing skills and experience to a new environment. The company have secured funding to develop a former council maintenance site into a working nursery facility open to the general -public, he has participated in range of tasks including: Weeding potted plants Weeding the raised flower beds Pruning Using a wheelbarrow to transport soil to extend flower beds Working as part of a team to help lay a gravel path Re-potting plants Weeding the path around the garden centre site As Sunderland Home Grown is local to where Ben lives this will provide opportunities for Ben to transition to supported employment after college.
