We are currently running Little Sparks groups for preschool autistic children and their parents/carers. The groups are been delivered by an autism practitioner from NEAS, as well as a music practitioner from Sage Gateshead. The session consists of interactive games and activities - all based around ukulele songs and nursery rhymes - accompanied by toys and props for our toddlers (and parents) to express themselves creatively and develop their imaginations.

The group targets the progression of the early years foundation stages in all areas of development:

  • expressive arts and design
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • communication and language
  • mathematics
  • literacy
  • physical development
  • understanding the world

As well as being a lot of fun, the sessions have contributed to our toddlers’ lives in profoundly positive ways; their self-esteem, confidence, communication, confidence in participating in the games/activities and social skills in how they interact with one another.
