Hendon workshop is located just a short distance from some of our residential homes in Sunderland city-centre, so it’s also a short driving distance.

Our recently updated units offer a safe and comfortable environment where people can thrive; gaining knowledge and lifelong skills, while enjoying taking part in our exclusive social and vocational programmes.

Our buildings are specifically designed to be autism-friendly. Hendon’s three units provide a woodwork area, sensory room and canteen.

The specialist staff working at Hendon help facilitate the development of skills in woodwork, crafts, and textiles, while further enhancing independent living skills. Trips to leisure centres are frequently arranged where adults can access a wide range of meaningful activities.

We have our own fleet of vehicles so we have access to regular outdoor and indoor activities, further afield. Some common activities include bowling, gardening, cycling and dancing. We also encourage and support adults to use public transport to further develop their independent skills.

Examples of activities supported include:

  • horticulture
  • woodwork
  • textiles
  • IT
  • leisure activities
  • accessing the community
