Who is the programme for?

This course aims to improve your basic cookery skills and knowledge. If you are considering a career in the catering industry this course is a first step towards achieving this. You will develop your skills in cooking, hospitality and food and kitchen safety.  The course will prepare you for life in restaurants, hotels, cafes, customer service based roles and many more

 

What are the entry requirements?
  • You must have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • You must be aged between 16 and 24
  • You will be invited to spend two days at Thornbeck College where you will participate in taster sessions to check if this is the right programme for you

About the programme

This programme focuses on preparing you for the next steps in your life. This may be employment leading to supported/open employment, supported internship or volunteering. We will support you to achieve your goals. If you want to develop, the skills needed to prepare yourself for work, develop your independent livings skills, increase your community participation and access further learning; this is the right course for you.

We will provide you with a person centred curriculum centred around catering and hospitality.

You will have opportunities to

  • Develop your functional English, maths and ICT skills
  • Develop your practical catering skills in a vocational kitchen
  • Participate in work experience with an employer
  • Become as independent as possible
  • Develop your social communication skills
  • Travel more independently and access a range of community facilities

At the end of the programme you will have

  • Developed your practical catering skills
  • Accessed a valuable work experience
  • Achieved an appropriate accredited qualification
Support

Throughout the programme, you will be supported to develop your functional English, maths and ICT skills, including achieving and accredited qualification where meaningful. You will also have the opportunity to complete an accredited qualification that links to your chosen pathway.
