Jack Berry, a member of the NEAS family along with his cousin Maisie Jones, have taken inspiration from Captain Tom Moore. The duo along with Jack’s mother Sara Berry – a family worker at NEAS have raised - an incredible £1,500 for the NHS Sunderland Royal Hospital by walking almost 200,000 steps, so far.

Sara and Jack who use the family support network here at NEAS expressed the importance of community when we caught up with them.

Sara said: “During hard times I looked to my community for help, I thought this would be the perfect way to give back.” Jack and Maisie are determined to raise as much as possible and would love the money they raise to go towards lifesaving equipment.

Jack is autistic and for him tasks like leaving home can be challenging. Teamwork has been an important factor with Maisie and Mum being by Jack’s side every step of the way. This really highlights the enormity of this achievement.

Jack, Maisie and Sara have not finished yet. This team of heroes are now aiming for 250,000 steps and you can sponsor them by clicking here.
