Durham cricketer Gordon Muchall is the latest to sign up as an ambassador with the Society.

Presenting Gordon with his certificate at the North East Centre for Autism in Newton Aycliffe, John Phillipson Chief Executive of the charity said. “It is really great to welcome Gordon as our new ambassador his support and endorsement of the work is really appreciated by everyone. We exist to enable all people with autism and those who love and care for them to lead fulfilling and rewarding lives. Our passionate, expert staff and volunteers work across all age groups and abilities providing direct support for people affected by autism”.

Born in Newcastle and educated at Durham School, Gordon Muchall made his first-class debut for Durham in 2002, a year when the make-up of the first team was constantly disrupted by injuries. Previously a member of two England Under-19 tours, he was in the second intake of England’s Academy, which went to Australia under the guidance of Rod Marsh in 2002-03. He was awarded his county caps in 2005 and in 2006 scored two hundreds to help consolidate Durham’s place in Division One.

“I am delighted to be able to support the work of this important local charity” said Gordon, “I know first-hand some of the challenges parents face when dealing with a youngster on the autism spectrum and know how important and vital the work of the charity”.
