Autism-friendly performances can be a fantastic way for people on the autism spectrum to enjoy a live theatre show.

These shows will have had adjustments made in the form of reduction to sound levels, some changes to lighting and loud sound effects. There will be a relaxed attitude to movement in and out of the auditorium, visual communication aids to support understanding and there will be some designated quiet areas available.

NE-AS has worked with a number of theatres in the region to deliver training to staff and cast members, so they have more understanding of autism.

Kerrie Highcock, Family Development Manager at North East Autism Society said;

A visit to see live music or performance can be just a standard experience for many people, but for someone with autism it can be very difficult, confusing and overwhelming. By making a few adjustments at the venue means that people with autism can experience the show too, many for the first time.
