Supported Living

North East Autism Society is committed to a person centred approach in all of the services it provides. We aim to offer people with Autism Spectrum Conditions and their families a range of quality flexible services which meet individual needs. Our aim is to deliver the highest possible quality of care for people with ASCs, adopting a flexible approach to individuals needs, helping to maintain their independence and preserve their quality of life.

It was these core values which lead us to provide our first Supported Living Scheme in November 2009. Working in partnership with a Housing Association and Durham County Council we were able support three individuals to become tenants of their own home. These 3 people now have security of tenure which means that they, and their families, have far more security and control over their future.

Each person also has a contract which sets the hours of support which are specifically commissioned for him or her. This means that we can provide every tenant with a flexible personalised service. Individuals are responsible for paying their own household bills. However, moving out of residential care involves a significant increase in their personal finances, so all three individuals now have more ‘money in their pockets.’
